◆救助されたPRB/Kevin へのメッセージ
ケビンの遭難のニュースを聞いてからずっと、ただ早く救助されることを祈っていた。
天候は荒れいて波が5～6mと高く、海水も冷たかっただろう。船は一瞬のうちに二つに折れたそうだ。
よくその状況の中で冷静に連絡をして、装備を整えてライフラフトに乗り移ったと思う。本当に素晴らしい脱出だ。
そして暗い中、見事に発見し、救助したジャンには脱帽である。さすがベテランセーラーだ。
お互いに一流のセーラーだったからこそ、この脱出劇が成功したのだろう。
素晴らしいシーマンシップである。
スキッパー達は、皆そう思ったに違いない。
明日は我が身である。ヴァンデ・グローブは一瞬で終わる。
前回、僕も胸に刻み込んだ言葉だ。お互いに命をかけた戦友である。
本当に助かってよかった。
素晴らしい仲間たちである。
Last night, when I heard about Kevin’s troubles, I really prayed he would be rescued.
Weather conditions shouldn’t have been easy but I am relieved to hear about the successful rescue by Jean Le Cam.
With the boat breaking in half, calling for rescue, jumping onto his life raft, Kevin showed a great seamanship that we should all learn from. And Jean who was able to rescue him in pitch dark also showed great seamanship.
We all need to learn from this.
Tomorrow, it can be anyone of us in this situation.
The Vendee Globe can end abruptly and I know this from my Vendee Globe 4 years ago.
Hats off to all the great seaman around.
Again, I am so relieved about the successful rescue.
